Objectives and Principles

At Sheltered Arms, our aim is to firstly promote safety for all of our young people. Within a safe environment, the young people can be supported in the home to achieve the goals set out in their support plan. Using a person-centered approach,  we aim to provide  the following duties:

 

  • Supporting care leavers and young people who have experienced a breakdown within their family unit.

 

  • Teaching practical domestic skills for independent living.

 

  • Offering help surrounding education and employment.

 

  • Providing money management advice to promote financial responsibility.

 

  • Group support services offered to young people living in shared accommodation.

 

  • Making introductions to external support services

At Sheltered Arms our aim is to secondly provide stability. This can be done through the provision of a homely environment for young people living in a Sheltered Arms accommodation, allowing them to feel welcome and settled. A range of services and facilities can be provided within the home, such as education/employment plans Independent skills mentoring and if required can be tailored into their package, including group activities, for the young people to keep occupied and stimulated.

At Sheltered Arms our aim is to lastly build our young people's self-worth. Building their self-worth will give them a sense of how to value themselves positively, which is a long-term investment in their emotional and psychological wellbeing. This will also assist them to engage effectively with our staff and those from external agencies to achieve their goals and aspirations to live independent lives.
